a thousand year flower

years ago
deep in the heart of the ocean
where light struggles to reach
a single flower began to rise
it began to grow and grow
and it couldn't be stopped

the waves tried its sink
the sands tried its shift
the thunder tried its roar
but the flower endured
not in fight
but in light
with a quiet glowing smile

why do you endure?
the wave asked
why do you smile?

and the flower replied:
''I was born of light,
pure,
unconditional,
all-encompassing,
bright,
blinding loving light.

when you push your waves,
you carry my love
when you shift your sands,
my roots grow farther
and when you thunder,
I spark my light across the skies

it reaches others
and when they touch it, I grow.

the laughter
the tears
the memories
they are my sunlight
and so
I shine
I shine
I shine
because of you.''

The wave cried,
the sand wept,
the thunder roared,
and they knew
they found a thousand year flower
its petals carrying the echoes of every life it touched,
they were her and she was them.

they shouted; she will not be erased!
she will bloom
again and again
because true love knows no end.

Farida,
we love you for a thousand years
and we will love you for a thousand more
